Tashi Choedzong

Background
Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu, Bhutan, is a large fortress and monastery with a history going back to the 13th century. It was first built in 1216 by Lama Gyalwa Lhanangpa and later rebuilt and expanded in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who united Bhutan. Over the years, it has served as a religious and administrative center. Today, it houses the King’s throne room, offices, and the central monk body. The dzong is also famous for the annual Thimphu Tsechu festival, which features masked dances and cultural performances, attracting many locals and tourists.
