Background
Dechenphu Temple, located north of Thimphu, Bhutan, is an important spiritual site dedicated to Genyen Jagpa Melen, a powerful protective deity. Built in the 12th century by Lama Gyalwa Lhanangpa, it became more prominent in the 17th century when Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who unified Bhutan, recognized its significance. The temple is a popular pilgrimage site, especially during the annual Dechenphu Tshechu festival. Known for its sacred relics and beautiful architecture, Dechenphu Temple is a symbol of Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage.
