Tango Cheri

Background
Tango and Cheri are important monasteries near Thimphu, Bhutan. Tango Monastery was founded in the 13th century by Phajo Drugom Zhigpo and later expanded by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the 17th century. Cheri Monastery, built in 1620 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, was where Bhutan’s first monastic body was established. Both monasteries are in the mountains, offering beautiful views and attracting pilgrims and tourists through scenic hiking trails.
