Background
Rinpung Dzong, also known as Paro Dzong, stands as a significant fortress and monastery in Paro, Bhutan. Founded in 1644 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan, it was initially established as a strategic stronghold. Later, it was reconsecrated and restructured to serve as the administrative and monastic center of the western region, earning the name “Rinpung Dzong”.
